The opening of the Sinadya sa Halaran 2008 last December 4, 2008 was grace by Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas, with Roxas City Mayor Vicente Bermejo and Capiz Governor Victor A. Tanco. A Thanksgiving Mass was held at the Capiz Gym. After the opening ceremony, Sen. Mar Roxas attended the forum for the Capiznon students at Capiz State University.
After the thanksgiving mass, the civic parade took off at 8:00 am at Villareal Stadium -> Makopa Street -> Fuentes Drive -> Roxas avenue -> Bridge -> Taft street -> Burgos Street -> Hughes Street -> and Public Plaza . This civic parade or “Duag Capiznon” with the Theme: “Bugay nga Naagum, Ikalipay kag Ipaambit nga Mapasinalamaton” was headed by the DepEd – Roxas City Division. This was participated by the different civic organizations, private companies & institutions, local government unit of each municipality of Capiz Province, City and Barangay officials of Roxas City.
Students from different high schools in Roxas City Division were grouped by clusters, performed a street dancing or sadsad with a giant replica of their products. The clusters were represented by the following schools; Cluster I – Cong. Ramon A, Arnaldo High School, Cluster II – Culasi National High School, Cluster III – Milibili National High School, Cluster IV – Roxas City School for Philippine Craftsmen, Cluster V – Tanque National High School. Not only by clusters, all students in different schools in the division of Roxas City participated in the Sinadya sa Kalye (Street Dancing) performed in the major streets of Roxas City. A brilliant ideas of Mayor Vicente Bermejo and the Schools Division Superintendent, Dr. Jesse M. Gomez, that brought excitement and fun in the city.
After the opening program, City Officials headed by Mayor Vicente Bermejo, inaugurated the Roxas City Rotonda Fountain. The ribbon cutting ceremony was assisted by the fiesta queen Rita Marie Felisa Ortiz Ignacio. Four sculptured horsemen painted with gold carrying a heavy arc was the main attraction of the fountain. According to Roxas City Rolando Ignacio who was commisioned by Mayor Bermejo to rehabilitate the fountain, this symbolizes unity and cooperation, of linking arms in times of crisis.
