In the first round, Hatton was already knocked down twice.

Winning this title, proves that Pacquiao was the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world and the only Asian boxer holding different world titles in different weight class:

  1. IBO Light Welterweight Title – from Ricky Hatton (England)
  2. WBC Lightweight Title (135 lbs.) – from David Diaz (Mexico)
  3. WBC Super Featherweight Title (130 lbs.)- from Juan Manuel Marquez (Mexico)
  4. WBC International Super Featherweight Title – from Marco Antonio Barrera (Mexico)
  5. IBF Super Bantamweight Title (122 lbs.) – from Emmanuel Lucero (Mexico)

Pacquiao (49 Wins (37 KO’s), 3 Lost (2 KO’s), 2 Draws) earned $12 million for the fight, while Hatton (45 Wins (32 KO’s, 2 Lost (2 KO’s), 0 Draws) was paid $8 million.

On the undercard, Mexico’s Humberto Soto knocked Benoit Gaudet of Canada down early in the ninth round and then stopped him with a flurry of punches to retain his 130-pound super featherweight title. It was the second defense of the title for Soto, who improved to 48-7-2 with 31 knockouts, while Gaudet fell to 20-2.

All Filipinos including the Capisnons were very proud of our hero, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.
