Sandbar: A real ‘catch’ to folks and guests alike

Baybay beach, with its fine gray sand and cool air, asserts its “rightful place in the sun” amid the proliferation of hotels, amenities, restaurants, bars and the like in the area and with no less than resident-investors putting their money where their mouths are.

The latest to rise in the idyllic Baybay beach is a new resto-bar called Sandbar, deemed one of the coolest places in town.  It is owned by the Ortiz family.

Baybay beach with a coastline that spans about 8 kilometers, has been acclaimed by no less than Tourism regional director Edwin Trompeta as among the country’s finest gray-sand beaches.

The beach area recently got the needed boost with the completion of the P10-million People’s Park (La playa de Roxas) located just across the residence of Sen. Mar Roxas II.

The administration of Mayor Vicente Bermejo is envisioning Baybay beach as a prime tourist attraction.

Sandbar now joins other existing businesses located within the premises of San Antonio Resort Village, which is under the Ancor Development Corp., a family of neo-urban residential living.  A swimming pool project by the same firm is under construction and its completion is being timed for the June 22-24 summer festival.  A convention center in the area is also underway.

Thus, after the holding of the three-day summer festival, Baybay beach, some five kilometers from the city proper, is expected to be once again bursting with life.

A massive coastal clean-up drive last June 11 this year was conducted by the city government and the newly formed Baybay Hotels and Resorts Association led by its president Ike Altavas.  The drive is aimed at generating awareness on the importance of making the beach area clean.

Sandbar, the swimming pool and the convention center are on top of the existing businesses managed by the San Antonio Resort Village, which also includes Casa Felisa hotel and coffee shop, Rock’N Bowl Recreation center, Kainan Village and the Lakehouse.

The ambiance at Sandbar, which easily resembles that of the worls famous Boracay beach, no doubt, the place’s biggest asset and attraction.  Every bight, horders of people who want to unwind after a hard day’s work flock to what appears to be the “latest craze in town.”

With its fine music that enhances the serenity of the beach environment, observers say Sandbar is indeed a “real catch” to both locals and guests alike. For reservation call 522-8920
