33rd MILO Marathon Provincial Elimination Race: 2 Capisnon Qualified to National Race

milo-marathon2Roxas City successfully held the 33rd  Milo Marathon Provincial Elimination Race with approximately five thousands (5000) enlisted to   ran in different categories last August 16, 2009. Widely regarded as the country’s longest-running and most prestigious running event, the National MILO® Marathon has, for years, woven inspiring stories of human courage, triumph, friendships and family bonding among participants from all walks of life with the “Kaya mo ‘Yan!” Slogan. As such, the National MILO® Marathon enjoys a much-envied reputation for being the preeminent event that rears champions in sport and in life, while at the same time celebrating family values and a healthy lifestyle. Simultaneous races in 26 key cities nationwide is conducted weekly since February 8, 2009.

 In the said event, two  (2) Capisnon runners were qualified for the National Race of Milo Marathon as Top of the Time Capiz Elimination Round.  

milo2009Honey Jane Delfin and Prescilla Cortel was able to finished and qualified in the Top of Time of 21K Milo  Marathon. Ms. Delfin has a time clock of 1:30:56, this is her second time to be qualified in the National Milo Marathon Race while Romelo Lleza of Negros Occ. got 1st Place in the 21K Male Category.

The Capiz Milo Marathon Provincial Elimination Race was spearheaded by Rotary Club of Roxas, Rotary International District 3850, headed by its Club President, Dr. Victor F. B. Acepcion and Mr. Mark G. Ortiz, Club Milo Marathon Coordinator. Roxas City Mayor Vicente “Vic” Bermejo was also present during the awarding ceremony. The 33rd National MILO® Marathon is supported by Bayview Park Hotel Manila.

With each staging of the National & Regional Marathon, it isn’t uncommon to find the streets of the country’s major cities flooded in a sea of green as thousands of runners from all walks of life-ranging from serious runners, students, parents and their children-take part in the event. Whether somebody ends up champion or not, what’s certain is that each participant will have his own inspiring story to tell-and cherish-for the rest of his life. 

Majority of the runners were students in the different schools and colleges in Roxas City and the provinces of Capiz.  There are different categories for the Marathon:  3-K Kiddie Run (7-12 years old), the 5-K Fun Run, the 10-K & 21-K Run, the Biggest Schools Delegation Contest, the Interschool Running Team Competition, and the Cheer and Dance Competition.  Top 3 Runners in the different categories received cash prize and trophy while 4th placers to 10th placers received cash + medal.

 A Cheer Dance Competition was held after the Milo Marathon.  Capiz State University (CAPSU)-Mambusao got 1st Place in the College Division, Colegio del Purisima Concepcion (CPC) got 1st Place in High School Division while President Manuel A. Roxas Memorial School-South (PMRMS) declared as Champion in Grade School Division. The Biggest Schools Delegation is awarded to Capiz National High School (CNHS) while the Tanque National High School (TNHS) got 1st Place in the Interschool Running Team Competition.

SULONG to Ms. Delfin and Ms. Cortel ,may you bring home the bacon…on the National Finals that will be in Manila on October 11…. be proud of being Capisnon and take every steps you beget for the glory of Capiz.

  2. I am going to start training for a local marathon and I am using a program developed by Marrius Bakken. It’s a really good system, I am just throwing it out there for those who are interested in a good system.
