ROXAS CITY – “The trust and confidence of the people of Capiz and Roxas City will always be with you,” this was the message of Capiz Governor Victor A. Tanco to President Benigno Simeon Aquino III during his brief visit here last July 12, 2011.
Gov. Tanco extended his gratitude in behalf of the people of Capiz for the numerous projects that the president delivered for the province.
President Aquino personally distributed Philhealth Cards to selected beneficiaries from different municipalities in the province. A total of 33,386 cards will be given to Capiz courtesy of the president.
The president also handed over the financial assistance amounting to P 1.7 million to the municipalities of Maayon, Sapi-an, Sigma, Pilar and Pontevedra which will be used for the Supplementary Feeding Program and will benefit 4, 726 pre-school kids. The aid was personally given to Mayors Wilfredo Borres of Maayon, Arturo Orosco of Sapi-an, Mary Andaya of Sigma, Ma. Ritalyn Patricio of Pilar and Esteban Steve Contreras of Pontevedra.
Meanwhile, Mayor Borres of Maayon also accepted the P 300,000 financial assistance for the Self-Employment Assistance Kaunlaran (SEA-K).
On the other hand, a total amount of P 171.37 million worth of projects were turned over by the Department of Agriculture to Gov. Victor A. Tanco which will be used to boost the food security and rice sufficiency initiatives of the province. Some of this will be used on improving production inputs, farm equipments, livelihood assistance and other production support.
President Aquino assured the Capiznons that the Panay River Basin Flood Control Project will be realized, despite of the withdrawal of funds from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
“I will discuss this matter with some members of my cabinet in order for us to identify the funding agency that will finance the project,” President Aquino quipped.
Gov. Tanco also thanked President Aquino for appointing him as the Regional Development Council Chairman as well as choosing former Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas to become the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary.
