The 2nd Annual One Visayas Festival

One Visayas - Capiz Gov. Victor Tanco and Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia

Capiz was part of an event that orchestrates the traditions of the Visayans. The Regional Development Council (RDC) officials organized the One Visayas Festival together with the Nat’l Economic Development Authority (NEDA) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). The main purposed of the event is to display the arts and cultures of three Visayan areas, Regions 6, 7 and 8.  

The four-day event was held at the Villareal Stadium, Roxas City. From March 11-14, the people of Capiz were pleased with the shows, exhibits, and plays seen in the festival. e Photo and Visual Arts exhibits were established near the entrance of the stadium and in the Capiz Gym so that people can see it as they came inside. One Visayas showcases the importance of the Visayans culture, food, heritage, history, and landmarks symbolizing to this year’s theme, “Heroes and Nationalism.” Many people realized the importance of the union and equality to all the Visayans and the rest of the Filipinos circulating all over the world after they have watched the festival. Dungog: Indigenous Peoples Festival 2009

Roxas City, Philippines – Capiz Provincial Government through the leadership of Governor Victor A. Tanco, Sr., en masse with National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Subcommission on Cultural Communities and Traditional Arts will hold DUNGOG: Indigenous Peoples (IP) Festival 2009 at Villareal Stadium, Roxas City Philippines on October 2-6, 2009. 

DUNGOG, is a local Hiligaynon term means dignity and to the other communities as to listen, is the IP celebration that will brings together 110 ethno-linguistic groups nationwide in which the vividness of tradition, customs and cultural practices will be featured. 

Indigenous cultural communities that are expected to attend  are Gaddang, Kankana-ey, Ifugao, Kalinga, Jama Mapun, Palawani and Molbog, Pala’wan, mangyan, Agta/Ita, Lineyte/Samarnon, Panay Bukidnon, Ati, Akeanon/Hiligaynon/Kinaray-a, Bagobo, Subanen, Tausug and Sama. These IP’s are descendants of the original inhabitants of this archipelago who have somehow managed to resist centuries of colonization and in the process have retained their own customs, traditions and ways of life.
To aid this once in a life time event for Capiz,  the NCCA allocated budgets of 6 million pesos while the Province of Capiz came up with 2.1 million pesos as counterpart fund.  Continue reading

P2.3-M budget for Sinadya Sa Halaran ok’d

ROXAS CITY – The City Council here yesterday approved the P2,367,392
Sinadya Sa Halaran 2008 budget in their regular session.

The money will be shared by the city and provincial government.

City Tourism Officer Rodolfo “Bong” Maestro Jr. said the event will
kick off on December 4 – 8.

For the five-day celebration, Chief Insp. Leo Batiles will deploy
165 police personnel to maintain peace and order. Continue reading
