Capiz Guv thanked PNoy for Projects

ROXAS CITY“The trust and confidence of the people of Capiz and Roxas City will always be with you,” this was the message of Capiz Governor Victor A. Tanco to President Benigno Simeon Aquino III during his brief visit here last July 12, 2011.

Gov. Tanco extended his gratitude in behalf of the people of Capiz for the numerous projects that the president delivered for the province.

President Aquino personally distributed Philhealth Cards to selected beneficiaries from different municipalities in the province. A total of 33,386 cards will be given to Capiz courtesy of the president.

The president also handed over the financial assistance amounting to P 1.7 million to the municipalities of Maayon, Sapi-an, Sigma, Pilar and Pontevedra which will be used for the Supplementary Feeding Program and will benefit Continue reading

Filariasis mass treatment in Capiz kicks off November 17

Roxas City – The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) will launch the massive treatment on filariasis on November 17 at the Provincial Capitol here to officially start the provincewide campaign to eliminate the disease.

The activity is in support to President Gloria Macapagal – Arroyo’s Executive Order No. 369 which declared the month of November as mass treatment period for filariasis in established endemic areas.

“Capiz was declared by the Department of Health (DOH) as the 41st endemic province in the country early this year,” said Provincial Health Officer II Jarvis O. Punsalan.

Punsalan added that the administration of free mass drug treatment will cover Capisnon aged 2 years and older.

“A house to house campaign will be done to reach out to every household,” he streesed, adding that the tablets provided by the DOH are now ready at the Rural Health Unit (RHU) level.

Food caterer says sorry to senior citizens; can’t also figure out ‘what happened’

ROXAS CITY, Capiz – The caterer who prepared the food for senior citizens during the recent celebration of the “Senior Citizens Week” (Oct.1-7) has apologized for the alleged “food poisoning” incident but stressed that she, too, was baffled by the sad turn of events.

        Heloise de la Cruz Mendoza said that she and her husband have  been in the food catering business for many years.  But it was the first time that she was confronted with the “food poisoning” incident. Continue reading

250 kids get free health services under Garantisadong Pambata

PANITAN, Capiz  – The provincial government led by Gov. Victor Tanco launched the October round of Garantisadong Pambata (GP) on Oct. 10 at the Dadivas Civic Center here.

        Two hundred -fifty children aged 0-5 years have availed themselves of the various health services offered by the program. 

        The program  is a package of eight public health interventions aimed at ensuring child survival.

        Twice a year (April and October), services for children aged 0-5 years, including Vitamin A supplementation,  deworming and immunization, are highlighted to ensure that children receive them. Continue reading

Capiz’ filariasis hunt underway

Filariasis Disease

A province-wide deformity survey is being conducted by the Provincial Health Office (PHO) in coordination with the local government units to identify and document possible additional filariasis cases in other towns.

 

 

 

Roxas City, Capiz (13 October) – “One more case has been recorded outside Tapaz,” said PHO Medical Specialist IV Evelyn T. Bolido of the on-going survey.

The survey is the PHO’s plan of actions following a documented filariasis cases in Tapaz town during a survey by a team of health workers last September. Continue reading

‘Stop China Milk imports’

Put people’s safety first –Roxas

 

ROXAS CITYSen. Mar Roxas said the entry of milk from China should be banned until the safety of consumers and children are ensured.

Roxas, also the Liberal Party president and one of the possible aspirants  in the 2010 presidential race, called on the Department of Trade and Industry to inspect all retail outlets and to ensure that tainted milk coming from China is not being sold.  He added that DTI should tap the support of local governments and the police in the immediate recall of these products.

 

“Mas mabuti na kung magkamali man tayo, magkamali na tayo na nasa sigurado tayo, na nasa ligtas tayo.  Kaysa magpapasok tayo ng gatas na kontaminado,”

Rare mosquito-borne disease afflicts Tapaznons

‘It destroys a person’s life’

 

            ROXAS CITY –The first ever-documented cases of Filariasis, a rare  mosquito-borne disease, were found in Tapaz, Capiz last month.

                 The disease which, if not treated early,  results to the  weird enlargement of thigh, leg, breast or scrotum,  reportedly first afflicted some Tapaz residents as far back as the early 1980s. Continue reading
