KI 35th Philippine South District Confab in Boracay

Boracay Island – The Kiwanis International Philippine South District Visayas and Mindanao area
held its 35th District Convention at La Carmela de Boracay Resort Hotel in Boracay Island last
September 9-11, 2010 with a theme: “Make Time to Make a Difference” .

The 35th annual district convention of the Philippine South District opened with Boracay grand
welcome night in the evening of Thursday, September 9, 2010 at the beach front of La Carmela de
Boracay all in white attire.

The grand opening ceremony and plenary session started on the second day with about 350
Kiwanians from 60 clubs and nine divisions were in attendance. At noon, there was an awards luncheon
to give recognition to outstanding clubs and district officers. Beach fun games give more color and
enjoyment that bonds all the Kiwanians in the afternoon. The Governor’s night in the evening features

The Asia Foundation Supports Educational Opportunities in the Province of Capiz

Roxas City, Philippines – Last September 16, 2010, 53,000 new children’s books, high school texts, and college reference materials were distributed in the province of Capiz.  More than 600 public and private schools across the province benefited from the donation of books, which was made possible through The Asia Foundation’s Books for Asia program in the Philippines.

Those who attended the book distribution event were: Capiz Governor Victor A. Tanco, DepEd Division of Capiz Superintendent Dr. Eveleth C. Gamboa, DepEd Roxas City Division Superintendent Dr. Jesse M. Gomez, Kiwanis International Philippine South Past District Governor Mr. Jose S. Altavas, District Governor Ruffy C. Leyson, FCU President Dr. Expedito A. Seneres and other officials of the provincial and city government.  Dr. Steven Rood, Country Representative of The Asia Foundation, and Mr. Efren N. Balajadia, Director of the Books for Asia program in the Philippines, presented the donated books to representatives of elementary and secondary schools, colleges, and universities. Continue reading
